Rules
THE GAME:
- This is a fun event that offers both a competitive and recreational level of play. The goal of the organizers is to provide an enjoyable and safe environment for players – rain, shine or snow!!
- Teams are guaranteed a minimum of four, twenty-minute running time games. A face-off at centre starts the game. There are no stoppages in play unless due to an injury.
- Teams will consist of a maximum of 10 registered players. Four players (including the goalie) are allowed on the playing surface during play. All player substitutions are made on the fly.
- Playing surface is to be 56′ by 88′. Standard Hockey Nets will be used.
- When a goal is scored, half court rule applies and ONE PASS IS REQUIRED BEFORE NEXT GOAL ATTEMPT.
- The tournament clock manages all games. There is no grace period for the start of games and if a team is late for the start, they forfeit the game. Games will not be rescheduled. A grace period will exist for injuries.
- Each playing surface will have one Game Official who has full authority on governing the game and monitoring play. This official will also record the start and finish of each game and be responsible for keeping track of who and the number of goals scored. ALL CALLS MADE BY GAME OFFICIALS ARE FINAL AND ALL ISSUES AND DISPUTES WILL BE HANDLED BY THEM.
- There will be no tie games. The team that scores the most will be declared the winner. If after 20 minutes of play the game is tied – sudden death play will be in effect the next goal will determine the winner.
- If the ball goes out of bounds, possession of the ball is given to the non-offending team at the point of exit; i.e., last touch loses possession. Assigned officials will have extra balls.
- Minor infractions/penalties include the following: shoving, pushing, tripping, slashing, elbowing, etc.
- Major infractions/penalties will be called for: verbal abuse of officials, spectators or opponents; intentional slashing; fighting, intentional body checking.
- Minor infractions/penalties during the game will result in a penalty shot for the non-offending team.
- Major infractions/penalties during the game will result in a penalty shot for the non-offending team and possible ejection of the player(s) involved from the tournament.
- Fights will not be tolerated and results in automatic ejection of the team and forfeiture of the game.
- The Organizing Committee reserves the right to add or delete rules; all teams will be informed of changes prior to the start of the tournament.
STANDINGS AND PLAYOFFS:
Playoff format will be finalized and released approximately one week prior to the event.
THE PLAYERS:
All players in the youth division must be a minimum of 7 years of age and a maximum of 18 years of age as of April 30, 2010. All players in the adult division must be a minimum of 19 years of age as of April 30, 2010. Players are asked to indicate the highest level of play upon registration. Any player who behaves in a manner that does not exemplify sportsmanship and fair play will be prohibited from play at the discretion of the Organizing Committee or Game Official. Visible intoxication prohibits play in all cases. Misrepresentation of age (by any player) will result in Team and / or Player Disqualification.
Competitive Level – SLAP SHOTS ARE PERMITTED:
- Men over 35
- Men 35 and under
- Women’s – Open
Recreational Level – NO SLAP SHOTS PERMITTED:
- Men’s – Open
- Women’s - Open

- 7 – 9 years NO SLAP SHOTS PERMITTED
- 10 – 12 years NO SLAP SHOTS PERMITTED
- 13 – 15 years NO SLAP SHOTS PERMITTED
- 16 – 18 years SLAP SHOTS ARE PERMITTED

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT:
(May change subject to liability insurance requirements)
There shall be no modifications to standard / stock hockey equipment, so as to “provide an advantage” to that player or team. The player will be required to remove and/or replace this equipment, at the discretion of the committee. Failure to comply will result in Player or Team Disqualification.
Men:
- Helmet (CSA Approved) Mandatory
- Shin Pads (hockey or ball hockey acceptable – Optional)
- Gloves (optional)
Women:

- Facemask or Shield (optional)

Goalies:
- Full gear
- Goalie sticks for goalies only.
ALL TEAMS MUST HAVE A “HOME” (WHITE) AND AN “AWAY” (DARK) JERSEYS.
EVENT ORGANIZERS WILL PROVIDE GAME BALLS ONLY.
